Sebastian’s journey began in 2021 when he joined Easterseals South Florida as a participant in the organization’s Summer Camp program. It was there that he discovered a passion for cooking, which led him to continue his path in the Easterseals Culinary Arts High School Program.
Through his dedication and strong work ethic, Sebastian quickly developed both technical and professional skills in the culinary field. With support from the Easterseals team, he secured an internship at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital in Miami within the Dining Services Department. There, he gained hands-on experience in food preparation, customer service, teamwork, and creative food presentation in a professional healthcare environment.
His performance and commitment led to a significant milestone—before completing his internship, Sebastian was offered a permanent position at the hospital. He graduated from the Culinary Arts Program with clear goals of continuing his education by pursuing his GED and building a long-term career in the culinary and food service industry.
Several months after graduation, Sebastian experienced unexpected life changes that required him to resign from his position. Although this transition was challenging, he remained determined to continue moving forward and building his future.
He reconnected with Easterseals South Florida through its Workforce Development Program, supported in part by Coca-Cola funding. Through individualized job coaching, resume development, career exploration, interview preparation, and employment support, Sebastian received guidance as he re-entered the workforce and rebuilt his career pathway.
With this support, Sebastian quickly secured a new position at a local hospital in Broward County, once again working in food service within a healthcare setting. This opportunity allowed him to continue building experience in his chosen field while maintaining steady employment and working toward long-term career stability.
Today, Sebastian continues to thrive in his role while pursuing personal goals, including obtaining his driver’s license and one day opening his own culinary business. His journey highlights the importance of ongoing workforce development support that extends beyond graduation, ensuring individuals have access to guidance and opportunity even when facing unexpected setbacks.
Sebastian’s journey demonstrates how access to consistent workforce development support can help individuals secure employment and continue building toward long-term career goals. With guidance from Easterseals South Florida and support from Coca-Cola–funded workforce services, he was able to re-enter the workforce, regain stability, and continue advancing in a field he is passionate about. His story reflects persistence,
adaptability, and the importance of ensuring that young adults have continued access to opportunity as they work toward long-term independence and career growth.
