July is recognized as Disability Pride Month. On Thursday, July 24th, a special “CVS Health® Day” celebration will be held at Easterseals South Florida. The event will feature a check presentation to highlight CVS Health’s recent $20,000 grant to Easterseals, as well as prizes and giveaways for Easterseals families and staff to enjoy.
In South Florida, Miami-Dade County has the highest prevalence of Alzheimer's disease in the U.S., with an estimated 16.6% of residents aged 65 and over living with the condition. Nationally, about 1 in 9 individuals aged 65 and older are affected by Alzheimer's. Florida, as a whole, has a high prevalence, with 12.5% of Floridians 65 and older estimated to have the disease.
WHO: Easterseals South Florida (ESSF) provides home and community-based services, programs, and resources that support independent living, improve quality of life, and maintain physical, social, and emotional well-being. Adult Day Care, in-home respite, and companionship services are provided to adults in need of assistance with activities of daily living. Easterseals’ specialized programs for Alzheimer's Disease and other memory-related disorders combine an array of cognitively stimulating and therapeutic activities to keep seniors engaged and active during the day and can return home to their families in the evenings.
CVS Health® supports organizations working to help simplify the complex care navigation process and bridge a critical gap in local health care and social systems to help individuals nationwide lead healthy lives, particularly in crucial areas like healthy aging. CVS Health recently awarded a generous grant of $20,000 to Easterseals’ Healthy Aging initiative. The funding will enhance enrichment activities for program participants and will support the work of certified nursing assistants, social workers, and case managers who specialize in person-centered care.
