Easter Seals on the Water
Jeremiah Cadet, an Edison Park Elementary second grader, cannot hide his excitement at being out on Biscayne Bay on a sunny winter’s afternoon.
The trip is the culmination of cycle one of Easter Seals South Florida’s “Swim with the Seals” program for the 2009-10 school year. Throughout this year 60 elementary school children will have the chance to learn swimming and water safety techniques thanks to a program funded by The Children’s Trust.
Students initially learn basic swimming techniques over a 10 week period. The swim sessions, led by certified instructors, are held at the newly re-furbished indoor pool facility located at the Easter Seals’ Miami location.
Successful students are then rewarded with a water based field trip. On 9th of September 12 excited Edison Park students were able to spend time out on the water, some for the first time. The Students spent time cruising Biscayne Bay and visiting a barrier island along the way. The field trip is made possible through our partnership with The Coconut Grove Sailing Club. |
