Douglas Johnson

Douglas Johnson is the President and CEO of Anthem’s Florida markets including Freedom, Optimum, Simply, and HealthSun.  In this capacity, Doug and his teams have the honor to serve over 240,000 of our senior Floridians.  Within our businesses we also have the privilege of caring for our most frail and elderly populations within the state including but not limited to our DSNP and CSNP residents. Passionate about healthcare and economics, leading the Florida Medicare markets were a natural fit.  In his leadership, Doug strives each and every day to drive positive change and improvement across our healthcare delivery ecosystem.  After almost two decades in various leadership and externally-facing roles, Doug firmly believes that the right mix of transparency, incentives, accountability, and collaboration can create an environment where all involved parties can thrive and benefit.  He also believes in fostering a culture the drives ongoing execution improvement in addition to a sense of urgency and bias toward action.  He firmly believes these actions must be rooted locally, however.  Deep roots within the community are paramount to the evolution of the ecosystem and the wellbeing of those involved. A process-oriented and calculated risk-taker, Douglas has led exponential expansions in valuebased payment model saturation, drastic operational efficiency improvements, and deeper partnership models with our provider populations and local communities.  Throughout his 13-year tenure at Anthem, Douglas has built a reputation for developing and executing new business strategies, turning around failing operations, and building sustainable relationships. Douglas holds a bachelor degree in Economics from Clemson University.  He is a former finance and leadership professional with Morgan Stanley and IBM Global Services and has 18+ combined years of experience in leadership, healthcare, and finance.
